You make the plan. You take the course. You update the website.
You work on the business. You make the responsible decisions.
You prepare for what is next.
All of that matters.
But somewhere along the way, it is easy to turn the next chapter into another project to manage.
Another thing to optimize. Another finish line to reach. Another version of yourself you think you need to become before you are allowed to enjoy the life you are building.
I know that tendency well. I can make a plan. I can make a spreadsheet. I can find the risks, identify the gaps, and create a backup plan for the backup plan.
Thirty years as a CPA trained that part of me well.
And to be clear, planning has served me. It is one reason I have been able to make big changes without pretending that money, logistics, or reality do not matter.

But planning is not the same thing as living.

As I write this, we are underway to the Bahamas by boat. There are plenty of practical reasons why it would be easier to stay home. There is work to do. There are things I could organize. There are emails to answer. There are always a few more details that could be handled before leaving.
But that is the trap, isn’t it?
If we wait until everything is settled, every risk is addressed, and every loose end is tied up, we may never go anywhere. And I don't just mean geographically.
We may never start the business.
Take the trip.
Learn the language.
Say yes to the new version of our lives.
Or let ourselves enjoy what we have worked so hard to create.
I am learning that a life built around freedom has to include actually using it. Not someday, after the work is done. Now.
That does not mean abandoning responsibility. It means remembering what responsibility is supposed to make possible.

More choices.

More experiences.

More room to say yes.

More life.
The life you are building is not supposed to be one long period of preparation.
It is supposed to be fun, too.
So this is my reminder to myself, as much as anyone else:
Do the practical things. Make the plan. Know your numbers. Build the foundation.
Then go live in it.
Because the point was never just to create a life that looks good on paper.
It was to create one you are genuinely excited to wake up and live.
