Freedom doesn’t show up when life slows down.

Freedom doesn’t show up when life slows down.

It shows up when life speeds up—and you still have to decide what gets handled.

Last week, everything hit at once.

I was in California, trying to make the most of my time out there. (Work, catching up with friends, vising with my with my daughter—while keeping work moving and staying on top of a schedule that wasn’t slowing down for me.

And right in the middle of it, my tax return still needed to get done.

Unfinished financial things don’t just sit there.

They follow you.

Not loudly, not dramatically—but constantly.

You can still function. You can still show up. But you’re not fully there. Some part of your attention is always being pulled back to what’s still open.

So I am happy to report, I did NOT extend! I filed that baby on time, and even a day earlier.

AND THAT FELT GOOD.

The shift was immediate—relief, focus, energy back. It’s subtle, but it matters more than people realize.

That clarity made me realize something else... When I made my plans to fly to California, I knew there was a chance I wouldn’t make it back in time for Todd’s retirement dinner.

I told myself that was fine.

But sitting there, in the middle of everything, it wasn’t fine anymore.

This wasn’t just another dinner.

This was Todd’s retirement. The start of the next chapter we’ve been talking about for years.

And it became very clear, very quickly—I didn’t need to be at a business event.

I needed to be with my husband.

So Thursday morning, I got on the phone with Delta, and figured out how to get home.

I took the red eye Thursday night, landed Friday morning, around 10 AM, and I rallied.

I made it.

Not because the week was easy.

Because I decided what mattered and moved.

That’s the part people don’t talk about.

Freedom isn’t fewer responsibilities. It’s fewer things living rent-free in your head while you’re trying to live your life. It’s knowing what to handle, when to handle it, and not letting it bleed into the moments that actually matter.

Money plays a role in that—not because it makes life smooth, but because it gives you the ability to respond when life doesn’t wait.

Last week wasn’t calm. It wasn’t polished.

But it worked.

Because I handled what needed to be handled… and then I showed up.

That’s the version of freedom I care about now.

Not perfect balance. Not less to do.

Just being fully there—when it counts.
